Hotaru no Hikari
Wow.. Hisashiburi guys.. In Japanese, it means Long time no see.. In my case, its Long time no Blog.. ehehe.. Been very busy for the past few days.. Still has hangover of last week’s events.. So what I have been doing lately?? Nothing much.. Ive been late twice this week, cause I woke up late.. Ive called alot of logistics company to take care of my garbage… Ive been very busy changing my address for the JLPT results… And i notice, mail services here in Japan is still famous.. And by mail service I mean yung magpapadala ka ng letter sa post office para sa registration, sa questions, etc.. So much for the technology nowadays.. ehehe… Good thing that the people in the post office are kind enough to guide me every step, and took care of the letters that I sent.. They even pasted the stamps themselves.. ehehe.. So I say kudos to their services… Other than that, the last episode of Heroes was released last tuesday, Ive downloaded it but was only able to watch it last night.. I became the video source for some of my friends, cause file transfer is faster than torrents for this case.. Also, the latest episode of Prison Break season 4 was also released last tuesday…
So for the past few days, I wanted to erase some files that I really dont need in my laptop.. Since Ive been downloading alot of videos recently, my hard disk is close to its limit.. When I looked at one of my drives, there are still those JDramas that I downloaded, but never even watched.. I dont want to waste the time I spent downloading them so I thought, why not watch it before deleting it… If I became interested, then Ill continue to watch, but if not, ill say bye bye to it… So I decided to randomly select a JDrama.. And I clicked a folder named Hotaru no Hikari, which means Glow of Fireflies.. I immediately clicked the first episode and fast forwarded somewhere in the middle of the video stream.. I was not sure of what I felt when I watched it, but since it was funny, I decided to watch it from the beginning.. And the next thing I knew, was that I was watching the 3rd episode..
Hotaru no Hikari is a very interesting JDrama about an office lady who is very talented and very industrious at work.. But that act is only at her office.. By the time she got home, she wears jerseys, ties her hair like a poodle, lays on the floor, read magazines and her favorite drink is beer.. So much for the girl in the office, but she completely changes when she is at home.. Her house is very dirty, lot of used clothes on the floor, news paper everywhere, and it seems that a man is living in that house.. A barowner, which turned out to be the father of her boss, gave her the house.. On the other hand, her boss had a problem with his wife and they separated.. Her Boss then went to his father’s house to live, but he found out that her subordinate was living there.. And after that, they lived together for some time, and many funny things happened since then..
Here is a picture of the JDrama:
So what I find interesting in this JDrama is the girl’s personality.. She haven’t found a guy yet kasi nga after work uwi kagad, then ala namang ginagawa sa bahay.. And then she met this one guy (her officemate) who she fell in love with, but find it hard to express her feelings.. And thats where the funny things happen.. Her boss gives her advices on how she can make her relationship to work, but most of the time she fails at first try.. And in the end, it seems that her boss, since spending time with her for a long time, is faling in love wth her.. Hmm… Still need to watch the last episode…
Right now, Im on the last episode, sad to say I have to delete the files after watching it.. But this will be on my top priority list after I buy a new harddisk.. So if you guys wanted to watch it, just click the picture and it will direct you to mysoju.com.. So I hope you enjoy this JDrama as much as I do…
Favorite Japanese Drama
Honestly speaking, I really dont like watching dramas. Even in the Philippines, I have no time to watch the television. And if I had, I watch DVDs instead. But what I watched back then was sci-fi or action related series like CSI, NCIS, Prison Break. But after coming to Japan, my world opened its new doors to the movie industry.
Being here in Japan, one of our requirement is to speak Nihongo. Well, we learned the basics in the Philippines. So the rest is up to us. And to tell you the truth, just learning from the book is not enough. Here we realized that we need to practice our conversation. So we did. Then again, it was not enough. What we lack was the listening practice. Even if we can speak a little bit of Nihongo, but if we cannot understand what we are hearing, then its not complete. And the fact is that, its not that easy to understand Japanese language. There are many words that is pronounced the same, but with different meanings. So you really have to understand the context of the sentence.
After spending two months in Japan, I became bored of what to do when I’m at my apartment. And then it hit me, why not watch Japanese Drama to practice both my listening ability and the words as well. Then that night, I started watching Japanese Drama or what we simply call Jdo (Jdorama = JDrama = Japanese Drama). After watching the latest season of Dr. House, I immediately watched the JDo that I copied from my friend Addy. The first JDo that I watched was Hanayori Dango. And after enjoying that, I continued watching other JDo’s until today. So below are the list of my top 10 most favorite Japanese Drama.
10. At Home Dad
At Home Dad is a typical story about a Dad that lost his Job and is having a hard time doing things around the house. That Dad believes that in a family, the Male should do the work while the Female will take care of all the things around the house. The Male will provide the money, the Female will provide the food. So what happens when everything changes and they swap their positions in the house?? ehehe… Well, this is under the category of family and comedy. I really loved this JDo. It tackles different family problems that we usually experience. Well, the main character and his best friend in the JDo are funny. I liked how they portray their characters. Also, the story plot is okay. Overall, this is my top 10 pick as one of the best JDo’s that I’ve watched so far.
9. Maou (Devil)
This is under the category Suspense and Love Story. Well, I like the lead Actor in this Drama. He portrays a Policeman that has accidentally killed someone in the past. And the story is that, the brother of the one killed by the lead actor, seeks revenge, by killing all of those close to the policeman. Actually, the culprit does not literally kill all those involved with the policeman, rather, he creates situations where the victim will die. All of those just to get revenge. Well, this has a really good story and twists. I like how the lead actor plays his role. Ikuta Toma, the lead actor, is known for his comedic expertise. But in this Drama, he showed his versatility when it comes to serious acting.
8. Proposal Daisakusen
Hallelujah Chance! That’s his famous line. Well, the story about a guy who missed all his chances to say his true feelings to a girl. On the wedding day of the girl with another man, he was given a chance to go back to the past to say what he truly feels about the girl. But no matter how many times he went back to the past, he was not able to admit it. And by going back to the past, alot of things were changed and it affected the present day. Well, this is a really romantic story. I like the story though it reminded me of the movie Butterfly Effect.
7. Yamada Taro Monogatari
I loved this Drama. This is a family comedy type of JDo. This drama will make you laugh and cry at the same time. hehe. The story is about a very industrious, highly intellectual but poor guy. He was accepted in a for-rich-people kind of University. Of course, he was popular because of his looks. But what his classmates don’t know is that he is a really poor person. So what do you think will happen if his classmates found out??? Well, I really had fun watching this Drama. Plus I love the supporting characters. hehe..
6. Hanayori Dango Series
Well, if you are familiar with the Drama Meteor Garden, this is the Japanese Version of it. But did you know that, this is the original Meteor Garden? Well, this is from a Manga that was adopted first in Taiwan (tama ba?? ehehe… not sure), and then finaly, they released the Japanese version which is based on the Manga. hehe..
5. My Boss My Hero
ahahah.. This Drama is about the Son of a Yakuza that is the next in line to inherit the company. But the thing is that, the lead actor lacks the mental requirements to run the company. In fact, we can say that the lead actor is really stupid. Hehe. So before he inherits the company, he has to graduate high school first. So what will happen if a Yakuza enters school?? Try to watch it!!.. ehehe.. Before watching this, I already watched the Gokusen Series which is about Yakuzas as well. But the sotry of this Drama is totally different from Gokusen. I surely did had fun watching this.
4. Gokusen Series
Dont laugh if I just watched this Drama here in Japan. Hehe… Well, this Drama has 3 Series, Gokusen 1, 2 and 3.. And back in the Philippines, I was able to see a glimpse of its commercials. But dito ko lang siya napanood. ehehe.. Well, the story is about a Yakuza Grand daughter that will inherit the Yakuza Company. But she chose to become a teacher, and lucky for her, she handles delinquents students. In the process, she became close with her students, understanding their feelings, and the students as well gains her trust. This is a really funny Drama and action in the end. Though she is just like Stephen Seagull who is Invinsible.. hehehe..
3. Hanazakarino Kimitachihe (Hana Kimi)

Hana Kimi
This is a story about a girl, who entered an Exclusive All Boys School just to meet the person who saved her in an accident in the past. Due to this accident, the one who saved her was damaged, and that affected his career. So one of her purpose is to let him do his career again. Well, the story is very funny. Actually, think this is the best comedy JDo ever. Specially, the character portrayed by Ikuta Toma who thinks he is a Homo because he is falling in love with boy. That boy is actually a girl who just cross dressed so that she can enter the school. ehehe..
1. Nodame Cantabile
Well, tied at number one is this Drama, Nodame Cantabile and Zettai Kareshi. Well, this is a comedy love Drama which focuses on a girl who dreams on becoming a renowned Piano artist. In the process, he met a very famous instrument specialist who dreams of becoming a famous conductor. Together, they shared alot of things in life. Well, this is based on a Manga, and the humor here is very much like in a Manga. Sobrang tawa ako ng tawa dito sa Jdo na to.. ehehe..
1. Zettai Kareshi
This is one of the best Romantic JDo that I had experienced watching. Grabe napaiyak ako dito sa last part. Nakakahiya man aminin, but napaiyak talaga ako sa last episode nito.. Hehe.. The story is about a girl who is unlucky when it comes to love. Then a company representative walked up to her and asked what an ideal boyfriend is for her. Then the next day, the company gave her a robot that has the qualities that she answered in the interview. So the story is that, the girl obviously doesnt like a robot as her boyfriend. But the robot is programmed just to love her. The robot does everything for her even if he destroys himself in the process. And in the end… Well, you just have to watch.. ehehe…
So there, that’s my list of good JDo to watch. Enjoy watching them!!.. Also, if you have suggestions regarding good JDos out there that are not listed here, feel free to comment it so that I can watch it.. ehehe..
